La Croix Church Theology

Does it really matter what I believe?  Yes it does!  Everything you believe says something about the God of the universe, and those beliefs determine how you behave.  Those doctrines determine your disposition.  Your convictions determine your character.  Ultimately, what you believe says much about your view of God.  Here is what we believe as La Croix Church.

Here at La Croix Church we love the Bible and view it as God's gift to us as His inspired Truth.  We believe that people cannot come to life in God unless the Truth is addressed to the mind, the understanding, and we believe that people cannot understand it unless the Holy Spirit of God operates in the understanding as the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge.  When this occurs, the end for which God instructs our minds is that he might transform our lives for His glory in Jesus Christ.  So take a moment to view what we believe and be blessed and transformed by it.

1. We believe the Old & New Testaments of the Bible are verbally inspired by God, without any mixture of error, and that they are infallible in the original writings as the supreme and final authority for knowing God and obeying Him. Deuteronomy 4:1-2; 17:19; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2

2. We believe there is One and Only One God eternally existing in one essence, yet co-equal in persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 1:1; John 1:1-18,29; 2 Peter 1:21

3. We believe man was created in the image of God as holy but voluntarily fell from that holy state with the consequence that all mankind are now sinners by nature, thereby incurring not only physical death, but spiritual death as well, which is eternal condemnation without defense or excuse. Genesis 1:26-30; Psalms 1; 8:3-6; Romans 3:10-18, 23; 1 Corinthians 15:19, 21-22

4. We believe that salvation of sinners is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, who lived a life of sinless perfection, died on the cross for our sin, rose again on the third day, and ascended to heaven as our All Sufficient Savior, Lord. Genesis 3:15; Matthew 1:21; John 10:9, 28-29; 17:17; Acts 2:21; Romans 10:9-10, 13; 1 Corinthians 15:10; Philippians 2:12-13; Colossians 1:9-22; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 2:1-3.

5. We believe that election is the glorious display of God's sovereign grace and goodness that promotes humility and excludes boasting and is infinitely wise, holy, and unchangeable. Genesis 12:1-3; Jeremiah 31:31ff; Matthew 16:18-19; Luke 2:29-32; John 10:27-29; Romans 8:28-39; Ephesians 1:4-23; Colossians 1:12-14; 1 Peter 1:2-5, 13.

6. We believe that the Law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of His holy, just, and good will that reveals man's inability to save himself and his need for the gospel of Jesus Christ who is the fulfillment of the Law. Genesis 1:27; Ecclesiastes 7:29; Romans 10:5; 1 Corinthians 5:7; Galatians 3:10, 12; Ephesians 2:14, 16; Colossians 2:14-17; Hebrews 10:1

7. We believe that the church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a congregation of baptized believers associated together in the gospel by faith in Jesus Christ, where these disciples observe the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper, God's biblical instruction, and are led by the Scriptural officers of elders and deacons. Matthew 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-42, 47; Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 2:9-14; Hebrews 11:39-40; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3.

8. We believe that baptism is the immersion of believers into water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and a beautiful symbol of our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior; that the Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby the church partakes of the bread and the fruit of the vine to memorialize the death of the Redeemer in light of His anticipated second coming. Matthew 3:13-17; 26:26-30; 28:19-20; Mark 1:9-11; 14:22-26; Luke 3:21-22; 22:19-20; John 3:23; Acts 2:41-42; 8:35-39; 16:30-33; 20:7; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 10:16,21; 11:23-29; Colossians 2:12.

9. We believe the Lord's Day is the first day of the week whereby the church commemorates the resurrection of Jesus corporately and privately as she gathers together for rest in the Lord Jesus Christ through biblical preaching, teaching, Bible reading, prayer, giving, and singing unto God. Exodus 20:8-11; Matthew 12:1-12; 28:1ff.; Mark 2:27-28; 16:1-7; Luke 24:1-3,33-36; John 4:21-24; 20:1,19-28; Acts 20:7; Romans 14:5-10; I Corinthians 16:1-2; Colossians 2:16; 3:16; Revelation 1:10.

10. We believe God has ordained the family as the foundational institution for human society; that marriage is uniting one man with one woman in a lifetime commitment to one another; that children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Genesis 3:1-20; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Joshua 24:15; Psalms 139:13-16; Matthew 5:31-32; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:21-33; Colossians 3:18-21; 1 Timothy 5:8,14; Titus 2:3-5; 1 Peter 3:1-7.

11. We believe that God alone is the Lord of the conscience and that He has left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men that are contrary to his word or contained in it. Genesis 1:27; 2:7; Matthew 6:6-7,24; 16:26; 22:21; John 8:36; Acts 4:19-20; Romans 6:1-2; 13:1-7; Galatians 5:1,13; Philippians 3:20; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; James 4:12; 1 Peter 2:12-17; 3:11-17; 4:12-19.

12. We believe that all Christians should seek to improve society consistent with biblical truth so that sinners may be pointed to the grace of God in Christ Jesus through our words and deeds of love and kindness. Exodus 20:3-17; Deuteronomy 10:12; Psalm 101:5; Micah 6:8; Zechariah 8:16; Matthew 5:13-16, 43-48; Galatians 3:26-28; Ephesians 6:5-9; Colossians 3:12-17; 1 Thessalonians 3:12; Philemon; James 1:27; 2:8.

13. We believe that God in His own time and way will bring the world to an appropriate end where Jesus Christ will personally, visibly return to the earth in all His glory to judge the living and the dead. Isaiah 2:4; Mark 8:38; 9:43-48; Luke 21:27-28; John 14:1-3; Acts 17:31; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; 5:1ff; 2 Thessalonians 1:7ff; 2; Hebrews 9:27-28; James 5:8; 2 Peter 3:7ff; Revelation 1:18; 3:11; 20:1-22:13.
