The vision of La Croix Church came to our founding pastor, Barry Lagg, following the devastation brought about by Hurricane Katrina to the Gulf Coast. It was during the storm that Barry began to sense the need to begin a new work where many of the refugees would permanently move. Justifying the need for yet another church in the Bible belt was his major stumbling block as he thought the sell would be difficult.
While serving a small, rural church in Elsberry, MO, just north of St. Louis, Barry and his wife Nerrylee prayed about beginning a new work in the South, especially close to the city of New Orleans. After discussing the possibility of church planting, they came to the conclusion that God wanted them to transplant to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The move was obvious in that neither Barry nor Nerrylee had discussed the location but only the need to start a new work near the coast.B Both concluded according to God's providential wisdom almost simultaneously it had to be in "Red Stick" (Baton Rouge).
After meeting with the Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge in 2006 and approved as church planters for their region, the Lagg family set their eyes on gathering a core group together as well as enough financial support to move to their new city in order to establish a presence in the target area. Barry and Nerrylee discussed possible candidates for the initial core/leadership team, and God once again worked out all the details in leading them to the Delfosse and Russell families.
Since that time, La Croix Church has seen God move mightily in a number of ways; by working out some difficult financial logistics, by providing housing for all three families within a month's time frame, by gifting the church with two extra core group families within two weeks of landing, and many more. Moreover, God has gifted us with a location for our corporate worship gatherings with a monthly cost that would make local heads spin at its rate. With those blessings in mind and many more to come, La Croix Church is striving to be a diverse, gospel-driven, biblical community that points people to God in Jesus Christ for God's glory and their good.
